SCU Raises $6 Million During Day of Giving 2025

ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ’s Bronco community came together in extraordinary fashion on April 23 for Day of Giving 2025, raising almost $6 million in just 24 hours to support student-centered programs and initiatives across campus. The effort drew more than 5,700 gifts from 46 states and 20 countries, reflecting the powerful impact of collective generosity from alumni, parents, faculty, staff, students, and friends of the University.
The funds raised will benefit more than 400 student-focused funds, including 181 academic departments, athletic teams, student organizations, global programs, scholarship funds, and the schools and centers that are the heart of a Santa Clara education. Several outstanding challenge grants—offered by generous alumni, parents, campus leaders, and companies—spurred participation throughout the day, helping the University reach its fundraising goals.
A few of the challenges put forth and completed were:
- Generous donations to Miller Center for Global Impact, including those from its advisory board, unlocked a $1 million challenge from Jeff, ’73, MBA ’76, and Karen Miller.
- Santa Clara Law's advisory board donated over $350,000 for the Amicus Fund to support student scholarships in response to 150 gifts to the law school.
- Two generous donors offered $200,000 for Study Abroad scholarships, enabling students to take advantage of this opportunity with less financial stress.
- Thirty gifts for the School of Engineering's Robotic Systems Laboratory unlocked $125,000 in funding and in-kind donations from donors and companies, including Faction Technology, Quanergy Solutions Inc., Venus, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute.
- The Sarah Hanna Excellence in Engineering Fund received a $100,000 challenge gift thanks to 300 gifts to the fund.
- Climate Action supporters unlocked $150,000 from Dorian Daley '86 and Michael Krautkramer.
- The music department received 25 gifts, unlocking a $25,000 gift for the jazz program from JAMBAR, a local, organic energy bar company.
Importantly, Day of Giving also plays a key role in furthering Santa Clara’s strategic initiatives, including expanding access and affordability, enhancing SCU’s global reach and impact, and building a more inclusive and thriving campus community. The day’s success aligns with the University’s bold aspirations outlined in Impact 2030, supporting transformational opportunities that prepare students to thrive in a complex and interconnected world.
Beyond financial support, Day of Giving was also a day of action and service. The University hosted a community blood drive in partnership with the American Red Cross, a professional clothing drive for Bucky’s Closet to help students prepare for interviews and internships, and a food drive to restock the Bronco Food Pantry to address food insecurity within the Bronco community These efforts reflect the Jesuit values at the core of the Santa Clara experience: service to others, community engagement, and holistic student support.
“Day of Giving is about more than just dollars—it’s about coming together as a community to make a lasting impact on our students’ lives,” said Jim Lyons, vice president for University Relations. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who participated, whether through a donation, a challenge grant, a drive, or by spreading the word. Every act of generosity moves us closer to our shared goals.”
Supporting over 400 student-centered funds that broaden SCU's reach on a global scale, expand opportunities for all talented students, and foster belonging and community on our campus.
